Just got on Facebook & am currently watching Nodame Cantabile. A very off the cuff post, yes this is. And by the way, Crisis != Danger + Opportunity.
Temperance (by others)
Temperance denotes balance and harmony. The forces behind Temperance are those that keep us from succumbing to temptation or over-indulgence. They steer us away from developing unhealthy addictions or behaviors. The Temperate Spirit avoids extremes, spreads harmony and brings opposing sides together. They find a happy, healthy median between what they want and what they need. Temperance provides an environment in which most will thrive, and a haven where the injured may heal.
Temperance (to me)
Temperance denotes a balance in balance itself. Not as complicated as it may seem, it merely means knowing via a combination of knowledge/experiences/feelings of the correct equilibrium to make things balanced. Temperance is the lessons we learn that tell us what our limits are, or even to a lesser extent important questions in life such as the flavor of ice cream which we like best. While temperance in itself brings about goodness, yet we often look at it with slanted eyes & suspicion as temperance often comes together with conflict or the bells of war.
Are the lessons we learn in life, necessities which shape us for the better – or merely misfortunes that we must face?
Thank God Its Saturday!
We wonder whether we are doing the right thing. Are we trying to live our lives towards meeting the lofty goals that we have set for ourselves? Are we merely bumbling along life happy with just the way things proceed? The days pass by with what & how we fill our lives with be it accompanied by work, studies, listening to mp3s, computer gaming or the wonderful idiot box.
The Music Plays On
But yet sometimes the music fails to bring comfort or even offer a distraction. Life seems like the search for the next hill to climb or the next big thing to conquer. Yet we always continue to our motions of daily life yet again day after day. And the days turn to weeks and before long a few years have passed by. How much have we changed & how much do we still remain the same?
What about if you have others that you are responsible for? If you are a leader, manager, boyfriend, wife or mother – how do you know you are doing the right thing and the best for your charges? What is the correct balance of making a decision on your own vs a consensual decision where everyone has a say? And if you are out there everyday nurturing, motivating & growing others, who is it that motives you yourself?
What is inside you & our past experiences largely influence our thoughts and action. Good vs bad. Right vs wrong. Smartness vs idiocy. Yet the compass merely shows the present and there’s nary a thing we can do about the past. Our past regrets remain regrets with the only solace being that we can claim them as learning experiences. Is it a wise thing to analyze the past or is it merely a folly & waste of time? Is taking action always the right action or will things work out in the end or even become better without our intervention?
I’m just cranky due to lack of sleep.
After shutting down successfully (and procrastinating for the last 2 weeks), Happy 38th Sunday of Blog Your Blessing
Shutdown your laptop. Stop thinking about all your work problems and projects. Weekends and after working hours are a sanctum away from work. Go take a deep breath, a leisurely game of squash or go meet a friend for a cuppa coffee & to chat. Escape.
The truth is in this age, all of us place a larger emphasis on ensuring that we have enough time for work & play. Work-life balance is indeed a critical part of our lives & we will feel stressed out or even violated if work keeps creeping into other areas of our lives. Yet sometimes we ourselves are to blame for when we start showing obsessive workaholic symptoms such as sending out work related email at 1AM in the morning or staying back everyday to work. Let go.
As is many things in life (e.g. overeating, over-exertion, telling bad jokes) too much of anything is never a good thing. Likewise when we put in too much time & effort into work, it actually backfires with us spending more hours accomplishing much less. What is worse is when we work when we are tired or stressed out, us humans tend to make mistakes – and then having to spend even more time fixing those mistakes. In today’s age where there’s so much to do and so little time, the only solution is to work smart. Not hard.
Friends & Family
Like it or not, the old adage still holds true that no man is an island. Our happiness in work, life and in general depends a lot on ourselves and how happy we are with the people around us. Relationships are an important thing, and all relationships do require time & effort. Thus wouldn’t it make sense to spend more time with the many important people in your life rather than keeping company with your notebook? Relationships.
Shutdown Today & Everyday
For those of us who have become so used to working till late at night & on weekends, shutting down & letting go will definitely not be easy. Yet if you intend to not burn out, taking time to slowly cut back on your working hours is a good idea. Give your notebook & your brain some well-earned rest. Rest, reach out & be happy. Not stressed.
